How Do You Accelerate?

Oh No, another discussion on ‘Change’ in the competitive world.

Do we really need more advice to ‘Change’ and how to be better?

But let’s give credit where credit is due. “Accelerate” by John P. Kotter does have some valuable lessons that could be applied to the competitive world. Long time ago. Kotter emphasised on the importance of ‘creating a sense of urgency’. Because nothing says success like feeling you’re about to have a heart attack! So how you are going to build and communicate the ‘urgency’?

Kotter also stresses on the importance of ‘building a coalition of support’. Let’s face it, you can’t be successful on your own. Can you?

You need a team of people to help you achieve. And if you can’t find anyone to support you, well, maybe you should just give up and become a monk without the ‘Ferrari’.

Another lesson that could be applied to the competitive world is the ‘importance of empowering employees.’ And this is because nothing says success is like giving your employees the power to make decisions that could potentially destroy your business. But, at least they’ll feel important, right?

Finally, Kotter emphasises the ‘importance of creating a culture of continuous improvement’. Now here we have to pause a bit. Is it because if you’re not constantly improving, you’re falling behind? Well, falling behind is the first step towards becoming a complete failure!

We can’t deny the fact that John P. Kotter “Accelerate”-ed us with some valuable lessons that could be applied to the competitive world. But let’s be real, success is not just about following a set of rules.

if you want to be successful, just remember: work hard, be persistent, keep up ‘Perseverance’ (my favorite) and may be cross your fingers!
