Ever wondered how First Officers (FOs) in an airline can level and keep up the game while flying with a different captain almost every day?
Captains may come in all shapes and sizes, from the calm and collected to the slightly weird, but navigating different attitudes is part of the deal/challenge (or fun!)
For example, it can be easy to fly with a captain that is professional and respectful, but it can be more difficult when dealing with a captain that thinks they are in Top Gun mode.
Having said that, this is where FOs’ experience gets enhanced, shaped and sharpened. Even with such types, there’s a lot to learn. It’s like getting free coaching sessions on every flight until getting the Captaincy.
Each flight offers a new lesson in adaptability, communication, and teamwork, which are qualities that even a seasoned Captain can still improve.

Dear Future Captains, seize every opportunity to learn, grow, and refine your skills as your career progresses. Take what these captains are offering you. There are senior Captains out there, seasoned experts, and you might be surprised by how much you learn through their experiences. Plus, the more captains we fly with, the more diverse coaching lessons we receive!
So, while it may seem stressful at times, with each flight and each captain, your training becomes more robust, and you become more confident in the air.
And remember, one day, you’ll be the ONE inspiring future FOs with your professionalism and experience!
Good luck and Fly Safe!
