“The Black Swan” by Nassim Nicholas Talib delves into the idea of rare and unforeseeable events that have a significant impact on our lives.
He referred to these events as “Black Swans“. He argues that black swan events are often disregarded or underestimated by individuals, organisations, and governments which may lead to catastrophic consequences.
The book includes examples from various fields such as history, economics, and personal experiences to illustrate his point. He cites the emergence of the internet and the financial crisis of 2008 as examples of black swan events that had a profound effect on society. The recent COVID-19 pandemic is another example of a black swan event.

The author also critiques the conventional methods of prediction and forecasting, arguing that they are often flawed and do not account for the possibility of black swan events. He suggests that we should be more adaptable and flexible to dealing with uncertainty and threats and risks.
#EvidenceBasedTraining (#EBT) for pilots was designed around this concept. It enables #pilot_training to be designed and customised to include what could be forecasted as Black Swans. EBT encourages pilots adaptability and #resilience.
“The Black Swan” is an insightful book that provokes and challenges to reconsider assumptions about the world and the future.
